i Saloni WorldWide Funishing Ideas Made in Italy

NY INSIDE • i Saloni WorldWide

Four years ago, Federlegno-Arredo – empowered by its own group system bringing together the leading companies of the sector – and Cosmit - with its own special exhibition-organising skills - decided to respond to the demands of their associates and exhibitors respectively by joining forces and bringing a group of exhibitors from the Milan Saloni to face up to the challenge of some of the international markets, North America among them.

This initiative – known as i Saloni WorldWide – has brought into the wider world the winning formula underlying the Milan Salone Internazionale del Mobile. The exhibitions under this umbrella are: Euroluce / International Lighting Exhibition Eurocucina / International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition SaloneUfficio / International Biennial Workspace Exhibition International Bathroom Exhibition International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition

These are the exhibitions that make up the indisputable benchmark for the entire Home Furnishing System at global market level.

An unequivocal declaration of a happy alliance: the Saloni in fact, provide the industry with a means of expression and an extraordinary promotional vehicle as well as further opportunity for growth and development on the foreign markets, which could be otherwise difficult to tap into.

The name “Saloni WorldWide”, conjugated on each occasion with the city in which the event takes place – in this case i Saloni WorldWide New York – is accompanied by Furnishing Ideas Made in Italy, the basic premise of which is that ideas take on a double meaning depending on how the word furnishing is perceived – as an adjective or as a gerund. The former should be read as furnishing ideas, or inspiration for 360 degrees living, inhabiting and working. Providing ideas, or stimulating creativity is the concept underlying the other meaning. A double play on words therefore, indicating that not only do a piece of furniture or a lamp constitute furnishing solutions, but also that just glimpsing a piece of furniture or a lamp is enough to spark off new ideas in relation to the same pieces, giving free rein to the imagination. The play on words continues with the contraposition of Made in Italy and WorldWide: ideas made in Italy and translated here into myriad objects and products that have encompassed – and still do – the history of Italian production, which are then sold and used all over the world.

Welcome then to you all – to those of you who have attended the previous three editions, to those who will come to meet us for the very first time – and in particular thank you for your interest, which has allowed i Saloni WorldWide New York to become the major North American high spot and meeting point for designers, architects and trendsetters, and for all those who love the Italian way of life.

Cosmit Rosario Messina President, Manlio Armellini Managing Director

Furnishing Ideas Made in Italy: back for a fourth round
Having successfully achieved its three-year target, the Saloni WorldWide is set to return across the Atlantic to New York, bringing with it a select group of companies under the aegis of Cosmit and showcasing furniture, accessories, kitchens and lighting systems representative of the design sector.

I Saloni WorldWide-Furnishing Ideas Made in Italy had the wind in its sails as it navigated its first three years around the North American market. Within this short space of time, i Saloni WorldWide has been recognised not just as the major commercial event in the Home Furnishing System because of the wide-ranging qualitative offering from the top Italian companies operating in the Design Sector, faithful exhibitors to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and the exhibitions under its umbrella, not least because it is a magnet and a meeting point for those who work in furnishing.

This year will see 52 of the top design companies set up camp at i Saloni WorldWide New York, an extremely representative team both in terms of quality and in terms of the level of Made in Italy products. The Italian squad will take up over 3,000 square metres of central exhibition space at the fairground, immediately accessible from two of the three main entrances from Hall 1, 1B and 1C, of the ICFF . The displays and artwork will ensure that the instantly identifiable and recognisable uniqueness of the Italian proposals will stand out.

Rosario Messina, President of Cosmit had this to say: “The USA accounts for 30% of the global demand for furniture and lighting systems, and the Italian industry still has only a slender hold on this demand, with market shares of less than 4%. However, in 2007, despite the Super-Euro and the sub-prime loan crisis, two major factors made themselves felt, first there was a general growth in the average unit values of Italian furniture exports which corroborated the keen response to quality throughout the American market, secondly the two figure rise in exports of some specialist products, such as kitchens, for example, which rose by over 20%, and office furniture, up to approximately 30%. Manlio Armellini, Managing Director added, “All the available data shows that Made in Italy is perfectly capable of competing successfully where non-price factors, involving intangible values generated by design, style, quality and personalised service are concerned”. I Saloni WorldWide New York has therefore proved yet again that it is an indispensable means of keeping abreast of the latest trends in furnishing and design for all those to whom these things matter.
