The Museum Of Modern Art - The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden Saturday, May 17, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Like swallows to Capistrano, like monarchs to Mexico, the world’s leading contemporary designers flock each spring to midtown Manhattan to celebrate opening night of America's premier contemporary design show in The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden of the Museum of Modern Art. On May 17th, the legendary, now vastly expanded complex on 53rd Street that is The Museum of Modern Art, hosts the migratory modernists as they swoop into Manhattan for one of the design world’s most festive events. The annual gala is definitely a happening not to be missed, particularly because it permits a wonderfully intimate view of Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi's latest iteration (designed with Kohn Pedersen Fox) of the house that Alfred Barr Jr. built. Fly with the hipsters, belly up to the open bar, sample the tasty hors d'oeuvres – or just stand back and admire the serene beauty of this extraordinarily restrained reinvention of one of New York City's most cherished landmarks. Tickets are available online.
